Nefyn is a small fishing village and former borough on the north-western flank of the Llŷn Peninsula, its bay and harbour looking out across Caernarfon Bay toward the outline of the Wicklow Mountains on a clear day. The village and its neighbour Morfa Nefyn, connected by a short walk along the clifftop above the beach, retain the character of an old fishing community, with a maritime museum in the former St Mary's Church and the remnants of a traditional herring fishery in the cobbled streets near the harbour. The Llŷn Peninsula AONB surrounds the village, and the gorse and heather of the hillsides above Nefyn — including the summit of Garn Boduan, an Iron Age hillfort — give the forage calendar a distinctive coastal upland character. Gorse on the Nefyn headland and hillside commons flowers from late winter through April; blackthorn on the Llŷn hedgerows adds to the spring blossom. Sycamore on the older village lane trees and in the churchyard provides the May flow; white clover on the farmland between the village and Pistyll to the east is the main June and July source. Sea thrift on the coastal cliffs adds colour through May and June; bramble on the hedgerow and clifftop scrub carries the season into September.
Collectors attend swarms in the older stone and whitewashed cottages of Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn, on the gorse-covered hillside common above the village toward Garn Boduan, along the coastal path cliff-top hawthorn and elder scrub between Nefyn and Pistyll to the east, in the farm outbuildings of the dairy and sheep farms on the peninsula farmland behind the village, and in the mature garden trees of the older residential properties on the hill above the bay.

Spring opens late. Gorse along the Llŷn coast and blackthorn in the sheltered Conwy and Mawddach valleys begin the year. Sycamore and hawthorn carry May; lime is present in Bangor, Caernarfon and Dolgellau. The mountain heather — bell first, then ling — across the Berwyns, the Carneddau and the Rhinogau brings a reliably strong August crop. Bilberry on oak-fringed hills and bramble in every sheltered combe support midsummer. Coastal sea-lavender on the Dyfi estuary adds character; ivy on slate cottages closes a short, high-quality year.
