Abersoch is a popular sailing and watersports resort at the southern tip of the Llŷn Peninsula, sheltered in its own south-facing bay between the headlands of Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd and the St Tudwal's Islands archipelago. The village and bay attract a large summer population of boating and surfing visitors, but its core is a genuine working village with a lifeboat station and fishing heritage, and the St Tudwal's Islands — one still occupied by a lighthouse keeper's cottage — lie just offshore as a wildlife sanctuary. The Llŷn Peninsula AONB surrounds the village on three sides, and the coastal grasslands, gorse-covered headlands and rocky coves of this section of the peninsula give honey bees an unusually rich late-spring and early-summer forage. Gorse on the headland tops flowers from February in mild years through to April; blackthorn and hawthorn on the field boundaries above the bay carry the spring blossom in May. Sycamore on the older lane trees in the village provides the main early-summer flow; white clover on the improved pastoral farms behind the coast is the July source. Coastal thrift, sea-campion and sea-lavender on the cliff and rocky shore extend the season; bramble is dense on the scrubbed headlands and in the lane-side hedges.
Collectors attend swarms in the older stone and rendered cottages of the village centre and harbour approach, in the mature garden trees and hedgerow margins of the residential properties above the bay, on the gorse-covered headlands and coastal grassland of Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd south of the village, along the hawthorn-lined lanes of the farmland between Abersoch and Sarn Bach, and in the boat-yard and marina outbuildings at the harbour.

Spring opens late. Gorse along the Llŷn coast and blackthorn in the sheltered Conwy and Mawddach valleys begin the year. Sycamore and hawthorn carry May; lime is present in Bangor, Caernarfon and Dolgellau. The mountain heather — bell first, then ling — across the Berwyns, the Carneddau and the Rhinogau brings a reliably strong August crop. Bilberry on oak-fringed hills and bramble in every sheltered combe support midsummer. Coastal sea-lavender on the Dyfi estuary adds character; ivy on slate cottages closes a short, high-quality year.
