Bee swarm in Warrenpoint? Help is a minute away.

Warrenpoint is a Victorian resort town at the head of Carlingford Lough, sheltered by the Mourne Mountains behind and flanked to the west by Rostrevor Forest Park. Lime avenues run along the promenade and town square, a characteristic feature of the Victorian resort layout. Rostrevor Forest Park holds exceptional mixed woodland with oak, beech, birch and a dense understorey of holly and hazel — outstanding foraging country for colonies on the Carlingford Lough shore. Hawthorn and blackthorn hedgerows line the farm lanes climbing toward the Mournes. Himalayan balsam colonises the river corridors flowing down through the forest in July and August, and ivy on stone walls provides late-autumn forage.

Forage in County Down

Blackthorn on drumlin hedges opens the year; sycamore is the dominant May flow. Hawthorn is abundant. Lime in Newtownards, Bangor and Downpatrick gives a strong June crop. The Mourne Mountains carry ling and bell heather — a genuinely distinctive Mournes heather honey. Bramble is dense; coastal sea-aster on Strangford Lough adds character; himalayan balsam on the Lagan gives a long late flow. Ivy on whitewashed cottage walls closes a long, mild year.
