Bee swarm in Newcastle? Help is a minute away.

Newcastle is a coastal resort town at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, where the slopes of Slieve Donard descend almost to the seafront. The open moorland above the town carries extensive ling and bell heather, giving a fine late-summer heather flow. Tollymore Forest Park, north-west of the town, holds mature oak, beech and Douglas fir with a rich understorey of holly, hazel and ivy. Donard Park runs along the Shimna River through the town with ornamental planting and mature sycamore and lime. The Shimna corridor carries Himalayan balsam from July. Hawthorn and blackthorn hedgerows fill the farm lanes on the gentler drumlin ground between the mountains and the coast.

Bramble is dense; coastal sea-aster on Strangford Lough adds character; himalayan balsam on the Lagan gives a long late flow. Ivy on whitewashed cottage walls closes a long, mild year.
