Borth is a linear seaside village on the southern edge of the Dyfi estuary, backed by Cors Fochno — one of the largest raised bogs in Wales and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The bog carries cross-leaved heath and ling heather, the estuarine margins support sea-aster and coastal wildflowers, and the inland sand dunes at Ynyslas hold bird's-foot trefoil and restharrow through midsummer. Collectors cover swarms in the older dune-edge properties and holiday lets on the seafront, in the gardens of residential properties behind the High Street, along the estuarine margins and wet-meadow edges of Cors Fochno National Nature Reserve, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the older render-and-stone properties of the village terraces.
