Aberaeron is a Georgian harbour town on Cardigan Bay, built as a planned settlement in the early nineteenth century around a sheltered tidal basin. Its colour-washed Regency townhouses, lime trees and sheltered gardens give local bees an unusually elegant forage close to the coast, while the coastal gorse on the cliffs to the north and the hedgerow-rich dairy farmland behind the town extend the season through into autumn. The Ceredigion Beekeepers' Association covers this stretch of coast and the Aeron valley.
Collectors cover swarms in the lime and sycamore trees of the harbour-square gardens and Regency terraces, in the sheltered back gardens of the colour-washed cottages along Cadwgan Place and Quay Parade, along the Aeron estuary waterside and the coastal path gorse north towards Aberarth, and in chimney stacks and roof voids of the older harbour-front properties.

Coastal gorse gives an early start at Aberystwyth and New Quay; blackthorn and hawthorn run behind. Sycamore and hawthorn are the backbone of May. The Cambrian uplands contribute bell and ling heather from late July — a modest but reliable crop — and bilberry in the sessile oakwoods adds a quiet early-summer supplement. White clover on hill pasture and bramble in deep Welsh hedges carry midsummer. Coastal sea-campion and thrift add an unusual saline note, and ivy closes the year on whitewashed cottage walls.
