Tregaron is a small Welsh-speaking market town at the edge of the Cambrian Mountains, best known as the gateway to Cors Caron — the great raised bog nature reserve on the Teifi headwaters. The bog is a nationally important habitat for bilberry, cross-leaved heath and ling heather; the surrounding upland country gives local bees one of the most distinctive late-summer heather flows in Wales. Hawthorn and sycamore on the valley-side hedges open the spring, and the Brecknock and Radnor BKA covers the nearest major population of beekeepers in this sparsely settled hill country.
Collectors cover swarms in the mature trees and older stone properties of the town square and Dewi Street, along the Teifi riverside margins at Cors Caron National Nature Reserve, in the farm buildings and outbuildings of the surrounding hill-farm landscape, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the stone-built cottages and small farmsteads of the parishes around the town.

Coastal gorse gives an early start at Aberystwyth and New Quay; blackthorn and hawthorn run behind. Sycamore and hawthorn are the backbone of May. The Cambrian uplands contribute bell and ling heather from late July — a modest but reliable crop — and bilberry in the sessile oakwoods adds a quiet early-summer supplement. White clover on hill pasture and bramble in deep Welsh hedges carry midsummer. Coastal sea-campion and thrift add an unusual saline note, and ivy closes the year on whitewashed cottage walls.
