Bee swarm in Crymych? Help is a minute away.

Crymych is a small market village in the foothills of the Preseli mountains in north-east Pembrokeshire, serving the surrounding hill-farming community. The village sits on the edge of the Preseli uplands where the landscape changes sharply from the sheltered, hedged valleys of the lowlands to the open moorland of the Preseli ridge. Hawthorn and blackthorn fill the deep lane-banks below the village; gorse is prolific on the common land and rough grazing above. The Preseli ridge itself carries bell and ling heather in a reliable August flow — the southern edge of a significant Welsh heather landscape. White clover on the hill pastures and bramble in the valley lanes support midsummer. Pembrokeshire Beekeepers' Association covers the area.

Typical swarm locations

Collectors in this area handle swarms on the gorse and heather edges of the Preseli common above the village, in the sheltered gardens and deep hedgebank gardens of the older properties in the village, along the Nevern and Clydach tributary hedgerow lines, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the farmhouses and cottages on the upland roads towards Eglwyswrw and Mynachlog-ddu.

Forage in Pembrokeshire

Gorse on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins flowering in earnest by March. Blackthorn and hawthorn follow on the sheltered hedges; sycamore and horse chestnut in Tenby, Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard carry May. Lime and bramble fill midsummer in the towns. The Preseli hills contribute bell and ling heather in a quietly reliable August flow. Coastal sea-lavender, sea-thrift and dune plants along Freshwater West and Newgale add seasoning; ivy on stone-built cottage walls closes the year.
