Narberth — Arberth — is a small market town in the Pembrokeshire interior, an independent-minded town of art galleries and food shops set on a hill between the Preseli uplands and the south Pembrokeshire coast. The surrounding landscape of hedgerow pasture, ancient woodland at Minwear and the Cleddau headwaters gives local bees a sheltered, varied forage. Hawthorn is exceptional on the old hedges of the eastern Pembrokeshire borderland, and the bilberry and heather on the Preseli hills to the north gives an August supplement. Collectors handle swarms in the mature trees and walled gardens of properties on High Street and Spring Gardens, along the Eastern Cleddau headwater margins at Blackpool Mill, in the sheltered farmsteads and outbuildings of the surrounding agricultural landscape, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the older stone properties in the town centre and the hillside residential streets.

Gorse on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins flowering in earnest by March. Blackthorn and hawthorn follow on the sheltered hedges; sycamore and horse chestnut in Tenby, Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard carry May. Lime and bramble fill midsummer in the towns. The Preseli hills contribute bell and ling heather in a quietly reliable August flow. Coastal sea-lavender, sea-thrift and dune plants along Freshwater West and Newgale add seasoning; ivy on stone-built cottage walls closes the year.
