Llanon is a scattered coastal village on Cardigan Bay, roughly equidistant between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, with a small beach, a mediaeval church and a broad agricultural hinterland of old enclosure hedges and cattle pasture. Hawthorn and blackthorn are dense in the high banks of the lanes running east towards the Aeron valley. Clifftop gorse, wild privet and sea campion supplement the clifftop forage in spring; bramble and white clover carry midsummer. The Aberystwyth beekeeping association covers the village.
Collectors here handle swarms in the clifftop gorse and scrub above the beach, in the tall hedgebank hawthorn along the lanes east of the village, in the sheltered cottage gardens and ivy-clad stone walls of the older properties near the church, and in chimney stacks of the farmhouses on the coastal plain around Llansantffraed.
