Newcastle Emlyn — Castellnewydd Emlyn — is a small market town in the Teifi valley, straddling the border between Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. The River Teifi at its most scenic point here makes a great meander below the castle ruins, with riverside alder, willow and wet-meadow providing excellent forage; the surrounding enclosed farmland of the Teifi corridor gives hawthorn, sycamore and bramble. The area has a strong independent bee-keeping tradition, with the Carmarthen BKA covering the southern Teifi fringe.
Collectors cover swarms in the older walled gardens and churchyard trees of the town centre, along the Teifi riverside willows and wet-meadow at Cenarth Falls downstream, in the hedgerow-rich farmland around Adpar and Beulah, and in the eaves and roof spaces of the older stone-built market-town properties.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
