Carmarthen — Caerfyrddin — is the county town of Carmarthenshire, set in the broad Tywi valley where the river begins its tidal reach. One of the oldest continuously occupied towns in Wales, it sits in a bowl of dairy farmland with old oak woodland on the valley sides, hedge-rich lanes of hawthorn and elder, lime trees in the town parks, and a long seasonal forage from blackthorn and sycamore through to ivy on the ancient walls. The Carmarthen BKA is based nearby and covers the town and surrounding Tywi valley.
Collectors cover swarms in the mature lime and horse chestnut trees of Nott Square and the town-centre parks, in the hedged and walled gardens of the older residential properties above the Tywi, along the Tywi riverside willows and wet-meadow margins at Abergwili, and in the eaves and chimney stacks of the older render-and-stone properties of the town.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
