Llandeilo is the principal market town of the upper Tywi valley, set on a hill above a wide meander of the river with Dinefwr Castle and its ancient deer park — one of the most important historic parkland landscapes in Wales — immediately to the west. The parkland's ancient oak pasture, the riverside alder and willow, the lime trees of the town square and the hawthorn-rich hedgerow country of the surrounding dairy farmland give local bees a superbly varied season. Collectors cover swarms in the lime trees and walled gardens of the town centre, in the ancient oak parkland and its grazed flower-rich turf at Dinefwr National Nature Reserve, along the Tywi riverside willows and watermeadow at Rhosmaen, and in the eaves and chimney stacks of the older render-fronted properties of King Street and Crescent Road.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
