Llangadog is a small village and civil parish in the middle Tywi valley, placed between Llandovery to the north-east and Llandeilo to the south-west at the point where the valley opens from its upper gorge section into the broad pastoral flats of the lower Tywi. The village is within the Brecon Beacons National Park — now Bannau Brycheiniog — and the Black Mountain rises directly to the south, with Carreg Cennen Castle visible on its limestone crag above the Cennen valley a few miles to the south-east. The River Sawdde descends from the Black Mountain fan and joins the Tywi just below the village, and the confluence area of scrub willow, alder and elder provides summer forage close to the settlement. The surrounding farmland is prime dairy pasture in the Tywi valley floor, carrying a strong white clover flow through June and July; the limestone and Old Red Sandstone pastures of the Black Mountain edge above 300 metres carry bilberry and bell heather through summer, with ling heather above 400 metres giving a late July to September upland flow accessible in a short move. Sycamore on the village lane trees provides the May flow; hawthorn and blackthorn on the mountain hedgerows are dense.
Collectors attend swarms in the older stone and roughcast properties of the village centre and church lane, along the Sawdde and Tywi river-bank alder and willow scrub below the village, in the farm outbuildings of the Tywi valley pastoral farmland between Llangadog and Llandeilo, on the Black Mountain limestone grassland and heather fringe above the Cennen valley, and in the walled gardens and orchard margins of the older residential properties on the village edge.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
