Bee swarm in Llandybie? Help is a minute away.

Llandybie is a compact village in the Amman valley between Ammanford and Llandeilo, set against the limestone escarpment that rises south-east of the village toward the ridge of Mynydd y Gwair and Mynydd Sylen. The village is historically associated with the anthracite coal industry and with the enormous Ammanford limestone quarry whose workings define the valley-side above the settlement, but its residential streets, old grammar school and the parkland of the nearby Glynhir estate give the immediate surroundings a settled, leafy character. The Amman river and its tributary the Marlais run through the valley below the village, providing elder, alder and willowherb forage along their banks through summer. Sycamore on the village lane trees and along the Llandeilo road provides the May flow; white clover on the improved valley-floor pastures through June and July is the main summer source. The limestone grassland and calcareous scrub on the escarpment above the quarry hold a range of wild flowers including horseshoe vetch, rockrose and marjoram that give an unusual forage character in late summer. Ivy on the older stone and brick properties closes the year.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
