Carmarthenshire · Swarm collection

Bee swarm in St Clears? Help is a minute away.

St Clears — Sanclêr — is a small market town on the River Taf where it is joined by the Cynin, between Carmarthen and Whitland. The town's mild, sheltered position in the river valley gives it a long foraging season: blackthorn and hawthorn in the hedgerow-dense farmland of the Taf corridor, sycamore and white clover through summer, bramble in the valley-side scrub, and ivy on the older stone walls in autumn. The Carmarthen BKA covers this western corner of the county.

Typical swarm locations

Collectors cover swarms in the older hedged gardens and churchyard trees of the town centre, along the Taf riverside willows and watermeadow at Pwll Trap, in the farm-hedge-rich countryside between St Clears and Laugharne, and in the eaves and roof spaces of the older stone-built properties of Market Square and Tenby Road.

Forage in Carmarthenshire

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
