Pembroke Dock — Doc Penfro — is a planned Victorian dockyard town on the north shore of the Milford Haven waterway, built to a grid plan around the Royal Naval Dockyard on the Haven shore. The town's harbour-side lime trees, the sheltered gardens of the Victorian terraces and the Haven estuary margins give local bees a good suburban forage in a mild coastal climate. The gorse-covered slopes of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to the south are within easy range; the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers' Association covers the town and the neighbouring Haven shore settlements.
Local collectors handle swarms in the lime and sycamore trees of the dockyard-grid parks and street plantings, in the mature gardens of properties on Pembroke Street and Bush Street, along the Haven waterfront margins at the Cleddau Bridge viewpoint and the old Dockyard, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the distinctive grid-plan Victorian terraced housing of the town centre.

Gorse on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins flowering in earnest by March. Blackthorn and hawthorn follow on the sheltered hedges; sycamore and horse chestnut in Tenby, Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard carry May. Lime and bramble fill midsummer in the towns. The Preseli hills contribute bell and ling heather in a quietly reliable August flow. Coastal sea-lavender, sea-thrift and dune plants along Freshwater West and Newgale add seasoning; ivy on stone-built cottage walls closes the year.
