Goodwick — Wdig — is a small town on the north Pembrokeshire coast adjacent to Fishguard, serving as the port for the Stena Line ferry service to Rosslare in Ireland. The town sits on the hillside above a sheltered bay overlooked by the Fishguard Harbour breakwater, and gives way quickly to the gorse-covered slopes and clifftops of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The early spring gorse on the headlands above Goodwick and on Pen Anglas promontory is among the most visible in north Pembrokeshire. Hawthorn, blackthorn and sycamore fill the sheltered lanes running north towards Strumble Head. Pembrokeshire Beekeepers' Association covers the area.
Collectors here handle swarms on the hillside gorse and coastal scrub above the town and along the cliff path towards Strumble Head, in the sheltered gardens and ivy-covered walls of the older properties on Harbour Village and Main Street, along the Fishguard bay waterfront and the ferry-approach woodland, and in chimney stacks and eaves of the older terraced housing above the harbour.

Gorse on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins flowering in earnest by March. Blackthorn and hawthorn follow on the sheltered hedges; sycamore and horse chestnut in Tenby, Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard carry May. Lime and bramble fill midsummer in the towns. The Preseli hills contribute bell and ling heather in a quietly reliable August flow. Coastal sea-lavender, sea-thrift and dune plants along Freshwater West and Newgale add seasoning; ivy on stone-built cottage walls closes the year.
