Broad Haven is a small seaside village on the western shore of St Brides Bay, set behind a broad sandy beach at the foot of a shallow valley. The surrounding coastal farmland on the Walton West and Talbenny plateau carries a good patchwork of hawthorn hedges, clover pasture and oilseed rape fields, giving local hives a varied early-summer flow. The coastal path above the beach brings gorse and sea-cliff vegetation; blackthorn and elder are dense in the sheltered inland lanes. Collectors cover swarms in the hedge banks and elder scrub on the approach lanes from Haverfordwest, in the garden trees of the holiday cottage clusters around the beach car park, in gorse and bramble on the cliff path above the northern headland, and in the eaves and outbuildings of the farm conversions on the plateau behind the village.

Gorse on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins flowering in earnest by March. Blackthorn and hawthorn follow on the sheltered hedges; sycamore and horse chestnut in Tenby, Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard carry May. Lime and bramble fill midsummer in the towns. The Preseli hills contribute bell and ling heather in a quietly reliable August flow. Coastal sea-lavender, sea-thrift and dune plants along Freshwater West and Newgale add seasoning; ivy on stone-built cottage walls closes the year.
