Kinross is the market town of Kinross-shire on the shores of Loch Leven — the famous loch of Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment, a National Nature Reserve, and one of the most productive freshwater bee landscapes in Scotland. The loch's wetland margins carry willows, alder, reed-bed edge plants and a rich invertebrate flora that supports a long watery forage from April to October. The Bishop Hill and the Lomond Hills rise to the east, giving a real heather moor within easy flying distance of the town; the farmland of the Kinross plain provides oilseed rape and clover through the main summer season. Kinross is administratively in Perth and Kinross but falls naturally within the Fife BKA area.
Collectors attend swarms along the Loch Leven wetland margins and the Kinross Lochshore Park willows, on the Bishop Hill heather fringe to the east, in the oilseed rape field margins of the Kinross plain, in the stone garden walls and market-town chimney stacks of the older Millbridge and High Street properties, and in the eaves of the loch-shore bungalows and estate properties.

Oilseed rape is the defining early Fife flow across the central plain. Raspberry canes on the Howe of Fife add an unusual early-summer crop. Sycamore and lime carry May into June in St Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Cupar. The Lomond Hills and parts of the north Fife moors give bell and ling heather. Coastal sea-aster and samphire along the East Neuk add seasoning; ivy on old fisher-town gables closes the year.
