Cupar is the county town of Fife — a compact market town in the Eden valley at the heart of the Howe of Fife, surrounded by the arable fields and raspberry canes that make central Fife one of the most productive bee landscapes in Scotland. The Howe of Fife gives oilseed rape from late April, followed by the remarkable cultivated raspberry crop for which the Eden valley is famous — a distinctive early-summer flow that produces a pale, fruity honey. White clover and field-bean margins extend the summer; the limes of Cupar's older residential streets give a June town-centre flow. The Motray Water to the north and the Eden tributary burns carry willows and elder south to the Eden estuary.

Oilseed rape is the defining early Fife flow across the central plain. Raspberry canes on the Howe of Fife add an unusual early-summer crop. Sycamore and lime carry May into June in St Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Cupar. The Lomond Hills and parts of the north Fife moors give bell and ling heather. Coastal sea-aster and samphire along the East Neuk add seasoning; ivy on old fisher-town gables closes the year.
