Strabane is a river market town on the Mourne, which joins the Finn at the town to form the River Foyle, marking the border with County Donegal. Willows and alder line the Foyle and Mourne bankside through and below the town, offering early forage in a sheltered valley setting. The Baronscourt Estate of the Duke of Abercorn lies nearby, with fine lime avenues, parkland sycamore and old hawthorn — a rich May flow. The Sperrin foothills rise steeply to the east with ling and bell heather across open moorland from late July. Drumlin farmland between the river and the hills carries dense whitethorn hedges, bramble and ivy on older stone work.
Collectors attend swarms along the willow and alder riverside walks on the Mourne and Foyle through the town, in the lime and sycamore of the Baronscourt parkland to the south-east, in the whitethorn hedgerows on the drumlin farm lanes toward Newtownstewart, and in the eaves and cavity walls of older properties near the town centre.

Blackthorn and whitethorn drumlin hedges open the year. Sycamore and hawthorn dominate May. Lime is present in Omagh, Dungannon and Strabane. The Sperrins contribute bell and ling heather in August — a dark, thick crop some Tyrone beekeepers work seriously. Bilberry in the oakwoods adds a June supplement; rosebay willowherb is dense on every disused rail line and stone quarry. Ivy finishes the year on whitewashed cottages.
