Enniskillen sits on an island between Upper and Lower Lough Erne, the county town of Fermanagh ringed by open water on every side. The Erne's willow-fringed margins and limestone grassland of the lough islands provide continuous forage across the season: hawthorn and blackthorn in spring, then bramble, purple loosestrife and hemp agrimony through summer along the waterway edges. Blackthorn and hawthorn on limestone hedges open the year; sycamore fills May. Lime in Enniskillen gives a strong June flow. Bramble is dense; the lough islands' limestone grassland contributes wild thyme, marjoram and knapweed. Hemp agrimony and purple loosestrife along the Erne and its tributaries carry a long late-summer flow.
