County Armagh · Swarm collection

Bee swarm in Tandragee? Help is a minute away.

Tandragee is a hill town on the River Cusher in north Armagh, its ridge-top position giving wide views over the rolling drumlin farmland between Portadown and Armagh city. Tandragee Castle — now famous as the home of the Tayto crisp factory — dominates the town from its wooded promontory; the mature lime and sycamore on the castle and estate grounds provide a strong early-summer flow. Apple orchards are established south of the town toward Markethill and Armagh, and the River Cusher carries willows and bankside hawthorn through the valley below. Whitethorn-hedged drumlin lanes and bramble on field margins extend the forage season through July and August.

Forage in County Armagh

Apple blossom in the Loughgall, Portadown and Richhill orchards gives one of the most concentrated early pollination flows in the British Isles. Hawthorn and sycamore follow. Lime lines the Georgian streets of Armagh city. Bramble is dense on the small-field landscape; clover still matters on pasture. The Ring of Gullion and the Sperrins edge contribute bilberry and late ling heather. Ivy on whitewashed cottage walls closes a long, hedge-rich season.
