Scarva is a small estate village on the Newry Canal in the north-east of County Armagh, close to the Armagh–Down boundary. The canal towpath carries mature willows and alders along the waterway margins, and the parkland of the estate grounds contains lime and horse chestnut. The flat lowland farmland east of Scarva toward Gilford carries dense whitethorn hedges and white clover pasture; the Bann floodplain to the east provides reed-margined forage in the valley floor. Scarva is known for its annual July demonstration, a gathering that brings thousands of visitors. The Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers serves this north Armagh area.
Collectors attend swarms along the Newry Canal towpath willows and bankside bramble north and south of the village, in the lime and horse chestnut of the estate parkland, in the whitethorn hedges on the flat farmland lanes toward Poyntzpass and Gilford, and in the eaves and stone walls of the estate cottages in the village centre.

Apple blossom in the Loughgall, Portadown and Richhill orchards gives one of the most concentrated early pollination flows in the British Isles. Hawthorn and sycamore follow.
