Wilmslow is an affluent commuter town on the Dean at the northern edge of the Cheshire plain, where the Cheshire countryside meets the outer suburbs of Manchester. The Dean riverside corridor and Styal Woods — ancient sessile oak woodland managed by the National Trust — are among the best bee habitats in east Cheshire, providing a reliable flow from bluebells, wild garlic and wood anemone in spring, lime and sweet chestnut in June, and bramble and rosebay willowherb through summer. The mature garden trees of the Victorian and Edwardian villa streets around Alderley Road and Hawthorn Lane supplement the natural flow.
Collectors regularly attend swarms along the River Dean riverbank willows and alder carr at Styal Woods and Twinnies Bridge, in the mature garden trees and old orchard remnants of the Alderley Road and Hawthorn Lane villa strip, on the rough grassland and gorse margins of Lindow Common, and in the chimney stacks and eaves of the older Edwardian semi-detached properties around the town centre.

Oilseed rape is heavy on the lighter soils of Mid Cheshire; hawthorn, sycamore and willow line the field margins. The mosses — Delamere, Holcroft, Risley — contribute a patchy but useful late crop with bog-myrtle and cross-leaved heath. Lime lights the streets of Chester, Nantwich, Crewe and Knutsford. Bramble is dense along every canal corridor, and a small hill heather supplement comes from the Peckforton and Bickerton ridge. Cheshire's pastoral landscape means white clover is still an honest flow, and ivy closes the year on half-timbered village walls.
