Coseley is a Black Country town in the City of Wolverhampton, set on the ridge between Bilston and Dudley and threaded by the main line of the Birmingham Canal Navigations at Deepfields Junction. The canal corridor is one of the most important wildlife corridors in the urban West Midlands, with willowherb, balsam and bramble on the towpath banks and elder and hawthorn scrub at every lock. Swarms in Coseley appear on the canal-side scrub along the Deepfields stretch of the Birmingham Canal, in the mature trees of Roseville Park, in the roof spaces and chimney stacks of the older terrace streets near Hurst Hill and Roseville, and on the bramble and elder of the embankments along the former Great Western Railway corridor towards Tipton.

Spring is carried on blossoming garden cherry, blackthorn and horse chestnut in parks like Sutton, Lickey Hills and Cannon Hill. Urban limes — both small-leaved and hybrid — dominate the June flow, especially along the old tram and canal routes. Bramble is universal on allotments and towpaths, and rosebay willowherb flushes the brownfield and rail corridors through July. The Clent and Waseley Hills give a useful edge of hill forage to colonies in the southern fringe, and ivy closes a long urban season.
