Bee swarm in Killin? Help is a minute away.

Killin is a village at the western end of Loch Tay, where the River Dochart tumbles through the famous Falls of Dochart before widening into the loch. Set among the Breadalbane mountains in the far north of Stirling council area, this is genuine upland bee country — the surrounding glens carry heather, bilberry and bell heather from late July, and the loch margins add willows and alder. Sycamore is the dominant village tree; bramble is dense in the sheltered woodland margins along the Dochart gorge below the falls. The nearby Glen Lochay and Glen Dochart carry some of the finest ling heather in this part of Perthshire.

Forage in Stirling

Oilseed rape on the Carse of Stirling carries the early flow. Sycamore and hawthorn fill the hedges; the lime avenues of Stirling, Bridge of Allan and Callander provide a classic June crop. Bracken-fringed oakwoods give bilberry; the Trossachs and Ochils contribute bell and ling heather in August. Bramble is dense in the sheltered valleys; ivy on old stone walls closes a long season given the northern latitude.
