Bee swarm in Bannockburn? Help is a minute away.

Bannockburn is the historic village on the southern approach to Stirling, site of the 1314 battle and now home to the National Trust for Scotland's Bannockburn Heritage Centre on the Borestone plateau. Sitting at the edge of the Carse of Stirling, the village has oilseed rape on the flat fields to the south and west giving a strong early flow, and the Town's Wood ancient woodland and Gillies Hill woodland to the north add bilberry, rowan and spring hawthorn. The Heritage Centre grounds and King's Park on the Stirling boundary provide landscaped urban forage; sycamore and hawthorn line the older residential streets of the village.

Forage in Stirling

Oilseed rape on the Carse of Stirling carries the early flow. Sycamore and hawthorn fill the hedges; the lime avenues of Stirling, Bridge of Allan and Callander provide a classic June crop. Bracken-fringed oakwoods give bilberry; the Trossachs and Ochils contribute bell and ling heather in August. Bramble is dense in the sheltered valleys; ivy on old stone walls closes a long season given the northern latitude.
