Bee swarm in Balfron? Help is a minute away.

Balfron is a conservation village on the southern slopes of the Campsie Fells, set in the Endrick Water valley where the farmland of the Forth lowlands meets the edge of the National Park. The stone-built main street, parish church and stone-walled gardens are surrounded by hedged pasture typical of the Endrick valley; hawthorn hedgerows are thick in May, and sycamore is prominent on the roadsides. The Endrick Water's willows and bankside meadows give a spring flow; the Campsie Fells rising immediately to the north carry heather and bilberry above the farmland belt; bramble is prolific in the sheltered field margins around the village.

Forage in Stirling

Oilseed rape on the Carse of Stirling carries the early flow. Sycamore and hawthorn fill the hedges; the lime avenues of Stirling, Bridge of Allan and Callander provide a classic June crop. Bracken-fringed oakwoods give bilberry; the Trossachs and Ochils contribute bell and ling heather in August. Bramble is dense in the sheltered valleys; ivy on old stone walls closes a long season given the northern latitude.
