Burnham-on-Sea is a traditional seaside resort on the southern shore of the Bristol Channel, backed by the drained moors of the North Somerset Levels and the fertile farmland between the Brue and Axe rivers. The Burnham & District BKA serves the town and the flat moor hinterland. Oilseed rape flowers abundantly on the levels each April and May, producing a fast, heavy flow; the garden parks and holiday-cottage hedgerows add white clover and bramble through summer; and the sea-buckthorn and gorse scrub of Berrow Dunes extends the forage season into autumn.
Collectors regularly attend swarms in the beach-hut garden hedges and elder-lined back lanes of the South Esplanade and Channel Avenue, in the Victorian guest-house eaves and chimney pots of Adam Street and College Street, along the tamarisk and sea-buckthorn scrub at Berrow Dunes, and in the mature garden trees of the residential streets running back from the seafront.

The apple orchards of Taunton Deane, Glastonbury and the Tone Valley give an early, intense flow in May; sycamore and hawthorn run behind. Lime scents the streets of Bath and Wells in June; bramble blankets every hedge. The Levels contribute a long late flow on willowherb, loosestrife and himalayan balsam along the rhynes. Mendip provides limestone grassland herbs — wild thyme, marjoram, knapweed — and the Quantocks give a small but real late heather supplement. Ivy closes the year on old orchards and stone churchyards.
