Llanwrtyd Wells — Llanwrtyd — claims to be the smallest town in Britain, a Victorian spa resort on the River Irfon in the heart of mid-Wales. Famous now for the World Bog Snorkelling Championships on the Waen Rhydd peat bog to the north, the town retains its spa character in the Ffos-y-Ffin spring and the Victorian Neuadd Arms. The surrounding Cambrian uplands are one of the finest heather honey landscapes in Wales: the moorlands of Irfon Forest, the Abergwesyn Common and the Mynydd Mallaen ridge all carry ling and bell heather peaking from late July into September. Valley floors carry hawthorn blossom, sycamore and white clover through the earlier season; bilberry colours the moorland edges in June; bramble lines every sheltered cwm. Swarms are reported around Llanwrtyd Wells in the older stone and whitewashed properties of the Neuadd Arms Square and Victoria Road, along the Irfon riverside willows and alder carr toward Abergwesyn, on the moorland-fringe heather margins of the Cwm Irfon nature reserve, and in the remote hill-farm outbuildings of the Abergwesyn and Rhandirmwyn valleys.

Spring comes late. Blackthorn and hawthorn carry the early season; sycamore is important on every farmstead. White clover in the hay meadows is still a meaningful flow. The dominant late-summer crop is ling heather across the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Cambrian uplands — dark, set, much of it commercially worked. Bilberry and upland grassland herbs add supplements. Bramble fills the sheltered valleys. A modest ivy flow on stone-built villages closes a short year.
