Crickhowell — Crucywel — is a market town on the River Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park, overlooked by Table Mountain (Pen Cerrig-calch) and flanked by the deep-wooded gorges of the Clydach above. The town's seventeen-arch bridge, one of the longest medieval bridges in Wales, spans the Usk beside riverside meadows where bee forage moves from hawthorn and sycamore blossom in May through white clover and meadowsweet in summer. The Usk valley oilseed rape fields between Abergavenny and Brecon give a solid April to May flow; the Black Mountains to the north-east carry bilberry and ling heather from late July. Bramble is thick in the gorge woodland above Llangattock; the limestone pavement of the Clydach escarpment carries unusual herb forage. Gwent Beekeepers and Brecknock and Radnor Beekeepers both serve the town.

Spring comes late. Blackthorn and hawthorn carry the early season; sycamore is important on every farmstead. White clover in the hay meadows is still a meaningful flow. The dominant late-summer crop is ling heather across the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Cambrian uplands — dark, set, much of it commercially worked. Bilberry and upland grassland herbs add supplements. Bramble fills the sheltered valleys. A modest ivy flow on stone-built villages closes a short year.
