Radcliffe on Trent is a large village and commuter settlement on the south bank of the Trent east of Nottingham, with long-established allotment gardens and open flood-meadow orchards fringing the river. The Trent flood plain here supports willow, elder and hawthorn scrub, and the village gardens bring bramble, borage and phacelia within easy range of established colonies.
Collectors are regularly called to swarms in the riverside willows and elder scrub along Trent Lane, in garden trees and hedges around the Cliff Estate, and in the tall hedgerows and orchard corners along the Shelford and Cropwell Bishop road margins.

Oilseed rape dominates the spring flow on the light sandy soils between Newark and Retford. Sycamore and horse chestnut carry May; lime lights the streets of Nottingham, West Bridgford, Mansfield and Worksop. Sherwood Forest gives a strong sweet-chestnut and oak-honeydew contribution in June. Rosebay willowherb is exceptionally heavy on the ex-colliery spoil heaps — a genuinely distinctive Nottinghamshire flow — and bramble fills every disused rail corridor.
