Mablethorpe is a modest coastal resort on the Lincolnshire coast, set behind the low sand dunes and seawall of the North Sea shore. Inland from the resort strip, the low-lying carrs and reclaimed marshes of East Lindsey carry a surprisingly rich late-season forage: white and red clover on the drained pastures, willowherb and toadflax on the sandy disturbed ground, and a productive ivy flow across the old farmstead hedgerows in autumn.
Collectors are regularly called to swarms in the garden hedgerows and boundary shrubs of the holiday park and residential roads behind the seafront, in the elder and hawthorn scrub on the inner side of the dune system, in the roof voids and chimney stacks of the Victorian and Edwardian boarding houses, and in the willow and sallow carr on the levels between Mablethorpe and Alford.

Oilseed rape is the defining early Lincolnshire flow, enormous in scale across the Fens and Wolds. Field beans, hawthorn and blackthorn carry the hedgerows. Lime and sweet chestnut line the Georgian streets of Lincoln, Stamford and Boston. Bramble is universal, and rosebay willowherb flushes disused airfields and dismantled rail corridors. The Lincolnshire Wolds, though not high, carry sainfoin and chalk grassland herbs. Coastal buckthorn at Gibraltar Point and ivy in the Wolds villages finish a long year.
