Stalybridge is a Victorian cotton-spinning town in Tameside at the junction of the Tame and Corn Brook valleys, set at the foot of the Pennine moorland that rises steeply above the town to the east. The River Tame, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the moorland edge of Walkerwood and Swineshaw Moors are all within easy reach of town-centre apiaries. Heather and bilberry on the moor above provide a late-season crop from mid-July; the Tame valley carries hawthorn, willowherb and meadowsweet; and the Victorian parks and mature garden trees of the Grosvenor Street and Caroline Street residential streets provide an urban forage backbone through summer.
Local collectors attend swarms in the sycamore and lime trees of Stamford Park and along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath, in the chimney stacks and roof eaves of the older mill terraces around Market Street and Armentieres Square, along the hawthorn and elder scrub of the River Tame riverside path between Stalybridge and Ashton, and on the stone field walls and moorland fringe above Walkerwood Road.

The city-region opens on sycamore and horse chestnut in the parks of Salford, Manchester and Stockport, then leans into bramble, white clover and lime on the flat lowland. The distinctive late flow is rosebay willowherb on the disturbed ground around reservoirs, railway lines and the regenerating post-industrial brownfield — a genuinely regional flavour.
