Bee swarm in Cheadle? Help is a minute away.

Cheadle is a prosperous residential town on the south side of Greater Manchester, bisected by the River Mersey and the Mersey Valley Country Park — a long greenway of meadows, riverside willows and hawthorn scrub that threads through the urban fabric and provides one of the most productive urban bee corridors in the conurbation. The town's mature suburban gardens, the parkland limes of Bruntwood Park, and the riverside wildflower meadows of the Mersey Valley give local bees an extended season from cherry blossom in early April through to ivy in October.

Typical swarm locations

Collectors are regularly called to swarms in the lime and cherry trees of Bruntwood Park and the larger residential gardens of the Cheadle and Gatley conservation areas, on the chimney stacks and eaves of the Edwardian and Victorian semis along Councillor Lane and Station Road, along the hawthorn and willow scrub of the Mersey Valley footpaths between Cheadle and Northenden, and in the garden apple and ornamental trees of the Cheadle Hulme residential streets.

Forage in Greater Manchester

The city-region opens on sycamore and horse chestnut in the parks of Salford, Manchester and Stockport, then leans into bramble, white clover and lime on the flat lowland. The distinctive late flow is rosebay willowherb on the disturbed ground around reservoirs, railway lines and the regenerating post-industrial brownfield — a genuinely regional flavour. Bell and ling heather on the Saddleworth and West Pennine moors gives the best hives a strong August crop, and ivy finishes the year on sheltered terraces and Victorian park fringes.
