Leven is a seaside town at the mouth of the River Leven on the south Fife coast — a former linen and coal burgh now a holiday and residential town, with Leven beach and the Silverburn Park giving the local green space. The Silverburn park and the River Leven corridor west to Glenrothes provide a productive bee-flying green belt: willows and elder on the riverbank, mature parkland trees, and the open grassland and coastal scrub of the beach. The East Neuk coastal path runs east from Leven toward Largo and Elie, carrying sea-aster and sea-pink; the raspberry-growing farmland of Kennoway behind the town contributes to the early summer flow.
Collectors attend swarms along the River Leven willows and bankside elder from Leven to Windygates, in the Silverburn Park trees and open-space planting, on the Leven beach and coastal scrub sea-aster margins, in the chimney stacks and garden walls of the older Shorehead and Commercial Road properties, and in the raspberry field margins and hedgerows of the Kennoway farmland north of the town.

Oilseed rape is the defining early Fife flow across the central plain. Raspberry canes on the Howe of Fife add an unusual early-summer crop. Sycamore and lime carry May into June in St Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Cupar. The Lomond Hills and parts of the north Fife moors give bell and ling heather. Coastal sea-aster and samphire along the East Neuk add seasoning; ivy on old fisher-town gables closes the year.
