North Ferriby is a large Humber-side village famous in archaeology as the site of the Ferriby Boats — Bronze Age sewn-plank vessels discovered on the foreshore, among the earliest plank-built boats in the world. The village sits between the Humber bank and the chalk-and-clay farmland rising to the Wolds, its older core of brick and rendered cottages fronting the Humber Way long-distance path. The riverside and estuary margins carry sea-aster, reed canary grass and coarse scrub; the hedged farmland to the north holds hawthorn, bramble and oilseed rape; lime and sycamore in the village streets and the ornamental planting of Ferriby Sluice give a useful June flow.

Oilseed rape is the defining early flow across the Wolds and Holderness plain. Hawthorn and field maple line the hedgerows.
