Tynan is a small estate village on the Blackwater tributary close to the Tyrone border, dominated by the demesne parkland of Tynan Abbey, which carries fine avenues of lime and mature oak. The surrounding west Armagh farmland is excellent foraging territory: the apple orchards of the Armagh bowl are not far east, and the drumlin landscape carries hawthorn-rich hedges and clover pasture. The Black River meadows south of the village provide willowherb and wild clover in the summer months. The Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers covers this western corner of the county.
Collectors attend swarms in the lime avenues and parkland trees of the Tynan Abbey demesne, in the hawthorn and whitethorn hedgerows on the drumlin farm lanes around the village, along the Black River willow and meadowsweet margins south of the demesne, and in the stone outbuildings and eaves of the older properties in the village and on the estate farms.

Apple blossom in the Loughgall, Portadown and Richhill orchards gives one of the most concentrated early pollination flows in the British Isles. Hawthorn and sycamore follow. Lime lines the Georgian streets of Armagh city. Bramble is dense on the small-field landscape; clover still matters on pasture. The Ring of Gullion and the Sperrins edge contribute bilberry and late ling heather. Ivy on whitewashed cottage walls closes a long, hedge-rich season.
