Hayle is an estuary town on the north shore of Mount's Bay between St Ives and Penzance, built on the industrial heritage of the Harvey's foundry that supplied beam engines to Cornish tin mines across the world. The Hayle Estuary RSPB reserve at the town's edge is one of the most important estuarine bird sites in southwest England; the salt marsh and estuary margins carry sea aster, sea purslane and cord grass that offer limited but unusual forage. West Cornwall Beekeepers serves this area. The farmland inland is early-flowering due to the mild West Penwith climate, and bramble and white clover are abundant through summer.
Swarms in Hayle settle on the blackthorn and elder scrub along the estuary path, in the older stone and cob cottages of the Foundry district near the town centre, on the garden hedges of the residential streets above the harbour, and in the hawthorn and bramble on the farmland fringe east of the estuary towards Lelant.

The season opens with gorse on every headland, flowering intermittently most of the year but peaking in April. Blackthorn on the cob hedges lights up the byways; sycamore and hawthorn carry the early build; and the slow-growing pittosporum and myrtle in the sub-tropical gardens of the south coast provide unusual supplementary forage. Bramble is dominant through July, bell heather appears on Bodmin Moor and the Penwith commons in August, and the mild autumn leans on ivy and fuchsia hedging well into October.
