Falmouth is a port and seaside town on the western shore of the Fal estuary, with the deep-water harbour of Carrick Roads before it and the wooded creek country of the Helford River to the south. The Falmouth and Helston BKA covers the area, and the surrounding landscape — the dense old gardens and sub-tropical planting of the town itself, the ancient oak-and-hazel creek woodlands of the Helford, cliff-top heather and coastal gorse, and the old orchard country of the Meneage — gives local bees a notably long and varied season.
Collectors regularly attend swarms in the older terraced garden remnants and mature shrubs of the Killigrew Street and Arwenack conservation areas, along the creekside alder and sallow margins of the Penryn River and Mylor Creek, on the coastal cliff-top heather and gorse between Maenporth and Swanpool, and in the chimney stacks and granite eaves of the older Victorian and Edwardian seafront properties.

The season opens with gorse on every headland, flowering intermittently most of the year but peaking in April. Blackthorn on the cob hedges lights up the byways; sycamore and hawthorn carry the early build; and the slow-growing pittosporum and myrtle in the sub-tropical gardens of the south coast provide unusual supplementary forage. Bramble is dominant through July, bell heather appears on Bodmin Moor and the Penwith commons in August, and the mild autumn leans on ivy and fuchsia hedging well into October.
