Copmanthorpe is a village south of York straddling the Bishopthorpe Road corridor, with the Knavesmire racecourse hawthorn on its northern approach and the arable field hedgerows of the Askham Richard and Appleton Roebuck lanes on its southern and western margins. The older farmstead gardens in the village core retain fruit trees and sycamore, and elder grows along the field and lane boundaries throughout the area. Collectors attend swarms on the Knavesmire racecourse fringe hawthorn and field-hedge sycamore at the village northern approach, in the arable field boundary hawthorn on the Askham Lane approach, in the older stone-fronted farm outbuildings and roof voids on the village Main Street, and in the garden and hedge boundaries of the residential streets between Moor Lane and Low Green.

Oilseed rape on the Vale of York arable fields around Dunnington, Poppleton and Skelton opens the season from early April. Hawthorn is dense on the field-boundary hedgerows all around the city fringe. York city centre is defined by its lime flow in June — Museum Gardens, Dean's Park, the Knavesmire lime avenue and the Victorian residential streets of Bishopthorpe Road and Bootham all contribute. Bramble is prolific on the railway embankment and Strensall Common edges; willowherb and himalayan balsam follow on the Ouse riverside. Bell heather on Strensall Common gives a modest but genuine late-July supplement. Ivy on the City Walls, churchyard walls and older suburban gardens closes the year.
