Llanrumney is a postwar residential community in east Cardiff, built on the slopes above the Rumney River and the Rumney Valley Local Nature Reserve. The LNR carries fen, marsh, reedbed and scrub — including bramble, willow and meadowsweet — giving bees on the eastern side of Cardiff a surprisingly wild supplement. The Rumney River itself runs through wooded sections with alder and elm; white clover is dense on the playing fields; and ivy on the rendered walls of the older houses closes the autumn.
Collectors attend swarms in the Rumney Valley Local Nature Reserve scrub and bramble margins, along the Rumney River path and its alder, elder and willow banks, on the garden walls and eaves of the residential streets off Llanrumney Avenue and Ball Road, in the playing field hedgerow remnants, and in the elder and hawthorn scrub at the settlement edge where housing meets the remaining farmland.

Early flows come from cherry plum and blackthorn in Bute and Roath parks. Sycamore and horse chestnut fill May; the lime collection in Bute Park is one of the largest in any UK city, giving a classic pale urban lime honey in June. Bramble is dense along the Taff Trail; rosebay willowherb flushes the former dock brownfield of Cardiff Bay. Coastal sea-lavender and samphire at Rhymney Great Wharf add a distinctive saline note; ivy on Victorian terraces closes the year.
