Chalfont St Peter is a substantial village in the Chiltern Hills south of Amersham, separated from its neighbour Chalfont St Giles by open farmland. The village has a thriving High Street and a large resident population drawn to the area by the landscape, the good schools and the easy access to London via the Chiltern Main Line. The surrounding Chiltern countryside — mixed beech and oak woodland with a dense understorey of hazel coppice, chalk grassland on the valley sides, bramble-rich rides and hedgerows on the clay-with-flints, and lime and sycamore in the older residential streets and churchyard — gives local bees an excellent and varied Chiltern season. Chalfonts Beekeepers' Society is based in this area.
Collectors here attend swarms in the beech and hazel woodland margins east of the village toward Austenwood and the Misbourne valley, in the mature garden and churchyard trees of St Peter's and the older High Street properties, in the clay-with-flints hedgerows and scrub of the Chiltern farmland fringe west toward Chalfont St Giles, and in the roof spaces and eaves of the 1930s and post-war housing estates that ring the village.

The Chiltern beech hangers produce an unusual honeydew flow some years; lime, field maple and sweet chestnut are the more reliable June flows through Marlow, High Wycombe, Amersham and Chalfont. In the Vale, oilseed rape dominates the spring and field beans support early June. Bramble is dense on the commons; rosebay willowherb fills every beech-clearing on the scarp. A strong late ivy flow runs across the flint-walled villages and ancient churchyards of the scarp foot.
