Twyford is a Thames Valley village between Reading and Maidenhead, sitting in the fork of the Loddon and its tributary where the chalk plain meets the Thames gravel terrace. The railway junction here has made it a prosperous commuter village with large mature gardens and a Victorian-period centre, while the Loddon meadows immediately to the east provide open floodplain habitat rich in meadowsweet, white clover and willowherb. Collectors are called to swarms on the mature fruit trees and garden hedges of the residential streets south of the A4, in the eaves of the older Victorian properties near the station, on the hawthorn and elder lining the Loddon path, and in the willows along the river margin between Twyford and Wargrave.

The chalk of the Berkshire Downs around Lambourn provides sainfoin, wild thyme and knapweed; oilseed rape bridges the early flow. Windsor Great Park contributes a textbook June lime and sweet-chestnut crop, while Swinley and Crowthorne heaths give a late bell and ling heather flow on the sandy commons — one of the strongest heathland flows in southern England. Rosebay willowherb fills the MoD and railway land corridors, and ivy on the Thames-side villages closes the year.
