Arlesey is a large village on the Ivel in Central Bedfordshire, with a Thameslink railway station and a strong market-garden heritage rooted in the sandy, well-drained soils of the Ivel vale. The surrounding landscape — the Ivel watermeadows and riverside willows south toward Stotfold, the oilseed rape and field-vegetable country of the sandy Ivel belt, the old brickfield margins and scrub of the former Arlesey Brick Works site, and the hedgerow-rich arable of the plateau toward Fairfield and Clifton — gives local bees a productive lowland-agricultural season. Collectors here attend swarms in the garden trees and hedge bottoms of the older Victorian terracing along Church Lane and the High Street, in the riverside willows and bankside scrub along the Ivel footpath south toward Stotfold, in the bramble and elder scrub on the former brickfield margins east of the village, and in the roof spaces and outbuildings of the mix of older cottages and newer housing estates that ring the village centre.

Oilseed rape is the dominant early flow across central Beds, supplemented by field beans. The Greensand Ridge brings sweet chestnut and bramble in the woods of Woburn, Aspley and Sandy. Lime lines the Georgian streets of Bedford and the older parts of Ampthill and Leighton Buzzard. Chalk grassland herbs — wild thyme, marjoram, knapweed — are still found on the downland fringe near Dunstable. Rosebay willowherb in the disused brickworks is a minor but characteristic flow; ivy on limestone village walls finishes the year.
