Oldmeldrum is a market town in the Garioch plain of central Aberdeenshire, north of Inverurie, with a weekly market tradition stretching back to a medieval charter. The town sits on a gentle ridge above the Ythan headwaters, surrounded by some of the most productive oilseed rape farmland in Scotland — the Garioch plain carries vast rape acreages that open from late April, filling supers quickly and rewarding timely extraction. Meldrum House Hotel grounds and the older town streets carry lime and sycamore into June; hawthorn is thick on the field-boundary hedgerows of the surrounding estate farmland. The Bennachie massif rises to the south-west, its heather moorland beginning to contribute a late-summer flow from late July, and the Urie valley willows and field drains provide riverside forage through summer.

Oilseed rape on the vast arable belt around Inverurie, Turriff and Ellon is the defining early flow — Scotland's single biggest rape region. Hawthorn and sycamore carry the post-rape period; lime lights Aberdeen's granite streets in June. The heather of Royal Deeside, the Ladder Hills and the Cabrach gives one of the finest and most commercially worked heather honey flows in Britain. Bilberry and hill forage add; a short but real ivy flow on the granite villages finishes the year.
